No medical advice

SafeHere is an advocacy organisation. It is not a clinic, a practice, a treatment provider or a crisis service. Nothing on this website constitutes medical, psychological or legal advice.

Reading this website does not create a clinical or professional relationship between you and SafeHere. The information provided is general. It cannot take account of your individual situation and does not replace an assessment by a qualified professional. Please do not delay seeking help, or disregard advice you have been given, on the basis of anything you have read here.

In an emergency

  • This website is not monitored and cannot respond to anyone in crisis.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call 144 or 112.
  • The crisis page lists lines that are staffed 24 hours a day.

No requests for money

SafeHere does not accept public donations, run public fundraising campaigns or sell anything. There is no means of payment anywhere on this website. SafeHere is privately funded. SafeHere never asks for money online, by message or by phone. Anyone who does so in its name is not acting on its behalf. Please report any such request through the contact form or by emailing privacy@safehere.org.

Accuracy and its limits

Every figure is verified against the body that produced it, and that body is named. Statistics are reviewed annually and crisis numbers every six months. SafeHere nevertheless cannot guarantee that a telephone number has not changed since the last review, or that an external service has not altered its hours.

Survey figures record only those who respond. People who tell no one about a problem are the most difficult group to measure, and the published figures therefore understate them.

If you find an error on this website, please report it and it will be corrected. This applies in particular to the numbers on the crisis page.

Links to other organisations

This website links to public services, helplines and other organisations that SafeHere considers useful. SafeHere has no control over them, and a listing does not constitute an endorsement of all their activities. Any dealings with these organisations are a matter between you and them.

Use of material

The research and figures on this website are intended to be used. They may be used in a school project, a policy submission, an article or a talk. Where possible, please credit the body that produced the data.

The name, the logo and the photographs remain the property of their respective owners. The photographs are licensed stock images and are credited in the source files. Please do not present yourself as speaking on behalf of SafeHere or suggest that it endorses something it has not seen.

No warranty

This website is provided as it is, without any guarantee that it will be available, complete or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, SafeHere accepts no liability for loss arising from use of the website or of any external service to which it links.

Privacy statement

This website is for reading. There is no account, no login and nothing to complete. In brief: SafeHere does not track visitors and has nothing to sell.

Summary

Messages sent through the contact form are kept, since they could not otherwise be answered. Beyond that, SafeHere collects nothing that you have not chosen to provide.

  • No analytics. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no heatmaps, no session recording and no A/B testing tools are used.
  • No tracking cookies. The website sets a single cookie, which remembers the language you chose and contains nothing else. It is not used to identify you.
  • No advertising or tracking scripts. No advertising networks and no social media pixels are used, and no fonts are loaded from another party's server. There is one third-party script on the entire website, on the contact page only: the spam check described below.
  • No accounts. There is nothing to register for, and therefore no profile of you can be created.
  • No mailing list. Writing to SafeHere does not subscribe you to anything, since there is nothing to subscribe to.
  • Data is never sold, rented or shared. This applies to advertisers, to partners and to all other parties, without exception.

What is processed, and by whom

No website can truthfully claim to collect nothing. The following is a complete account.

WhatWhyWho
Your IP address and browser type, in server logs This is unavoidable when delivering a web page. The data is used to keep the website available and to block attacks Cloudflare, the company that hosts this website, briefly, as part of serving it
The content of the contact form: the reason selected, the name provided, your email address and your message To allow the message to be read and answered, and for no other purpose Stored in a database operated for SafeHere by Cloudflare, with a copy delivered to SafeHere's email inbox, which is hosted by Google. Only the people who answer messages at SafeHere can read it
Your approximate location (country and region), derived from your IP address To suggest the language of the website on your first visit Cloudflare, at the moment the page is served. It is not stored
A spam-check token, on the contact page only To distinguish a person from an automated program, so that the form remains usable Cloudflare Turnstile. It sets no cookies and does not create a profile of you. It is, however, a third party and is therefore named here

This list is complete. The following are deliberately not stored with your message: your IP address, your browser fingerprint and any identifier that would allow you to be recognised again.

Where the data is processed

Messages sent through the contact form are stored in a database kept within the European Union. Cloudflare itself is based in the United States and operates servers in many countries, so server logs and the spam check may be processed outside the country in which you live. Cloudflare has committed itself by contract to protecting this data.

Security

All pages and the contact form are delivered over an encrypted connection. Access to messages is restricted to the people who answer them. No system is completely secure, which is one reason why SafeHere collects so little.

If you write to SafeHere

Correspondence is kept for as long as it is of use to the exchange and is then deleted. You are not added to a database, no profile of you is created, and what you wrote is not passed on to anyone else.

All messages sent through the contact form or by email to an @safehere.org address reach the same small group of people and are handled in the same way.

A first name is sufficient, and it does not have to be your real name. Your email address is used only to reply to you.

Please do not send clinical or crisis information. SafeHere is not a clinical service, its inbox is not monitored around the clock, and it is not a safe place for anything urgent. In urgent cases, the crisis numbers are staffed. SafeHere is not.

Links to other websites

This website links to helplines, public services and partner organisations. Once you follow a link, you are on the website of that organisation and subject to its privacy policy, over which SafeHere has no control. The helplines listed are selected in part because they allow anonymous contact.

SafeHere also publishes on Instagram. Anything you do there is subject to the rules and the privacy policy of that platform, not to this statement.

Your rights

You may ask what information SafeHere holds about you, request a copy, request a correction or request deletion. In practice, the information usually consists of a single exchange of messages, which is then deleted. Please use privacy@safehere.org. You will receive a reply within 30 days.

You may also object to the way your data is handled. If you consider that SafeHere has not dealt with your request properly, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

Children

This website is written so that it is safe for anyone to read, including persons under 18. SafeHere does not knowingly collect information about anyone, and this includes children.

Changes

These terms and the privacy statement may be updated. In that case, the date at the top of the page will be changed. In the event of a material change, such as the collection of additional data, this would be stated clearly on this page.

Contact

For questions about privacy, these terms or your data, write to privacy@safehere.org. For anything else, please use the contact form.
