Welcome to SafeHere

Founded in 2020 and led by young people from the outset, SafeHere works online and internationally. This page sets out its purpose, the principles that govern its work and its history.

Purpose

Wellbeing has become a product that has to be paid for

Therapy, coaching, structured programmes and retreats are frequently of high quality, yet their price largely determines who benefits from them. Insurance meets part of the cost for some, and only once specific conditions are fulfilled.

SafeHere holds that the same support should be available without financial or administrative barriers. In an age of unprecedented connectivity, loneliness continues to rise; what most people lack is not information, but human contact.

The work therefore has three strands: opening access to programmes that would otherwise cost thousands, building a community in which no one has to recount their situation from the beginning, and maintaining contact with those most at risk of exclusion.

Where SafeHere works

Online and internationally

SafeHere is based in a country with robust public services and a long tradition of social provision. The gap between a person and the care they need nonetheless exists everywhere, and in many countries it is considerably wider.

For that reason the organisation works online and across borders, reaching people regardless of background or circumstance.

Principles

The commitments behind the work

  • Free for everyone it helps

All of SafeHere's work is free for those it serves, and it is funded entirely from private sources.

  • Dignity in every image

The people SafeHere supports are never photographed. Their stories remain their own.

  • Every figure has a source

Each figure is published with the body that produced it and its year of publication.

  • Credit where it is due

Public support services accomplish a great deal, and SafeHere acknowledges this before offering any critique.

  • The right professional for each person

Every person is directed to the qualified service, clinician or helpline best suited to their situation.

  • Open research

The research underpinning every statement is published in full, including findings that complicate the picture.

The case for this work rests on published evidence, not on conviction alone.

History

How SafeHere was founded

SafeHere was founded in 2020 by Aurora Eugenie Grant. Grant set out to ensure that young people struggling in silence are noticed, heard and connected with the help that already exists.

It began as a school project, with friends who shared that conviction. In 2023 it took off and grew into a youth-led organisation leading mental health advocacy for young people, online and internationally. Its work centres on a single transition: from not knowing where to begin to sitting with a qualified professional.

Aurora Eugenie Grant, also known as Aurora Grant, is a philanthropist and private investor with an international background that is reflected in her work. Born in France and raised in Lugano, she studies Economics at University College London (UCL) and divides her time between Europe and the Middle East.

Her interests centre on the welfare of women and children, animal protection and the environment. Grant founded SafeHere after her closest friend died by suicide at the age of 17. Her wider charitable interests include the preservation of cultural heritage, the advancement of educational opportunity and international development, with a particular commitment to initiatives intended to have a lasting impact across generations.
